Lane and ramp closures begin on I‑94 corridor affecting routes to Detroit Metro Airport

Drivers traveling to Detroit Metro Airport are facing new lane and ramp closures as a major rebuild project begins along I‑94 in Wayne County.

Lane and ramp closures begin on I‑94 corridor affecting routes to Detroit Metro Airport

A long‑term Michigan Department of Transportation rebuild project along Interstate 94 has begun, bringing new lane and ramp closures that impact traffic routes used to access Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Officials say the project covers approximately 13 miles of freeway and will include rebuilding pavement and infrastructure along the corridor. As part of the first phase, the northbound Southfield Freeway ramp to westbound I‑94 and the southbound Southfield Freeway ramp to eastbound I‑94 are closed, with posted detours using Michigan Avenue, Greenfield Road, Ford Road and local connectors. Transportation officials warn the closures could affect travel times for passengers heading to DTW and are advising motorists to allow additional travel time while construction continues through the season.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the eastern Texas Panhandle under a “slight risk” for severe weather, while surrounding areas remain under a marginal risk. Supercell storms are possible along a dryline boundary, raising the chance of large hail and localized severe damage.
