Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred overnight in Allen Park, a community in Metro Detroit.
According to initial reports, police officers responded to a situation involving a man who was allegedly armed with a knife and a boxcutter-style tool. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, including the use of a Taser, which was reported to be ineffective.
During the encounter, an officer discharged a firearm, striking the man in the arm. Emergency medical personnel transported the individual to a local hospital for treatment. The man’s current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the case has been turned over to the Michigan State Police, which will conduct an independent investigation into the incident. Local police have not released additional details while the investigation is ongoing.
Officials have not identified the officer involved or released further information about the circumstances leading up to the encounter. Authorities emphasized that the investigation is active and that additional information may be released as it progresses.
